Is this coin whizzed?

Hard to tell, but looks like there are diagonal striations running across the coin.

  • That looks like whizzing to me.
Mostly done with an Eraser or something like that.

    I don't buy slabs I make them
  • The real questionis it's authenticity
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • I'm not saying that all rare old expensive coins like this one need to be slabbed...

...but why isn't a rare old expensive coin like this one slabbed?

It may not be whizzed, but it has been harshly scrubbed. Whizzed coins have an artificial shine and up close a pitted surface. harshly cleaned coins usually have those hairlines that are deep and menacing like your Flowing Hair example. Then again, it could have been whizzed and cleaned which is the greatest shame any coin has to endure.

  • More than 9 out of 10 of these are no longer original. To me, this one just does not have a natural patina. It looks cleaned, not whizzed. I'm not sure if it is authentic. The reason I'm not sure it's authentic is because the strike is very strong, centered very well, and very clean, which is very uncommon for an early half.

I think it's an authenticity issue, also. Is it real? It just doesn't look right.

If it is real it almost appears that it has dug and someone has tried to smooth it out.

Looks like a cast, and whether it is or isnt. It has been scrubbed as tyler indicated.

The seller has great feedback. Currently selling many raw $3,000+ coins.
The coin looks to have had a harsh cleaning or two during its life.
If your definition of wizzed is a coin that has been worked on to make it appear better than it is then I think this one qualifys.
